Where’s Your Business At?

It’s useful to do a periodic audit and figure out where your business is at. An annual look at your business in some depth can help you work out what the next steps might be.

You might find it useful to ask yourself the following questions;

Where are you now?

What position is your business currently in? What turnover are you achieving? Are sales increasing or decreasing? What are your profit margins like? Is your business growing or contracting? Do you have the edge over your competitors or are they finding ways to take market share from you?

How did you get here?

Good or bad, what decisions have led you to your current position? Think about what’s working and what’s not.

Where are you heading?

If you carry on as you are where will the business be in a year? What about in five years? Will you still be in business? Will your business have grown? Will your business be achieving what you want it to?

Where would you like to be?

What are your goals for the business? Where would you like to be in a year? What about in five years? Be as specific as you can.

How do you get there?

What do you need to do to get there?

Are you on course?

Are you taking all the actions identified in the last question? Are you making progress? If not, what action can you take?
