How To Analyse Your Blog/Website Traffic
You have a website and you’ve integrated a blog to help you rank better in the search engines. What next?
It’s important to analyse your site’s performance so that you can improve upon it. Whether it’s making a booking, a purchase or signing up to your email list, you will have an action you want a visitor to take when they come to your site. By analysing the performance of your site you can identify areas for improvement and increase conversion – simply put you will be able to increase the amount of people taking the action that you want.
The three key areas for analysis are;
- Traffic
- Content
- Conversion
Traffic – look firstly at the bounce rate, you want this to be as low as possible and the key is to ensure that when people hit your site, they stay. Another important metric is time spent on site, the longer the better. The more time someone spends on your site the more engaged they are, and the more likely they are to take the action you desire.
Content – look at the blog posts or areas of the site that are most popular. This information tells you what people are most interested in when they come to your site, you can use this information to improve the blog and website in the future.
Conversion – look at the conversion on the site ie. click rates, sign up rates, purchases etc. At this point you may want to do some A/B testing to improve conversion. You can do this by changing anything on the page that might increase the likelihood of someone taking the action that you require. Monitor the results to see if the change is effective or not. If it is then you keep the change.
